Nitrate removal

NITRATE REMOVAL IN DRINKING WATER: SAFE, RELIABLE AND COMPLIANT WITH STANDARDS

The nitrate content in drinking water is reduced using special ion exchange resins. These specifically remove the nitrates that are harmful to health from the water and replace them with chloride ions. The technology used corresponds in structure and function to the proven methods for water softening. How nitrate removal works:

  • Use of selective ion exchange resins for the removal of nitrate ions
  • Replacement of nitrate with chloride in a physical-chemical process
  • Same plant technology can be used as for water softening
  • Regeneration of the resin with high-purity vacuum salt (tablet form according to DIN EN 973)
  • Formation of a concentrated brine solution to restore resin capacity

Advantages of the process:

  • Effective reduction of elevated nitrate levels in drinking water
  • automated operation with standardised regeneration
  • Easy retrofitting of existing systems possible
  • low maintenance requirements when used properly
  • Important operational and hygiene measures:
  • Regular disinfection of the system is necessary (chemical or thermal).
  • Monitoring the chloride content in water to prevent corrosion damage
  • Compliance with the limits set out in the Drinking Water Ordinance (TrinkwV)
  • Professional maintenance and inspection by trained personnel

Areas of application:

  • Households with their own well or contaminated tap water
  • agricultural regions with increased nitrate levels
  • Commercial enterprises, nurseries, schools or catering establishments

The targeted use of nitrate removal systems can improve drinking water quality in the long term. The technology offers a safe solution for complying with applicable limits and avoiding health risks – efficiently, reliably and with proven effectiveness.
